I started something new this year called Smirk & Sweat... it’s a twice-a-week email for folks who like their fitness with a little sarcasm, some solid life perspective, and zero fluff.
I’ve been loving it, and a few people on this list told me they didn’t even know it existed… so I figured I’d give you a taste of today’s edition.
If you like it, you can hop on the official Smirk & Sweat list here:

Your Monday Recharge…
Hope your coffee's strong, your to-do list is short, and your jeans still fit even after that "just one bite" weekend. If not, welcome to the club. :)
Let’s roll into the week
with a little laugh and a lot of doable motivation:
Dad Joke of the Day
I’ve always wondered what the most groundbreaking invention of all time would be.
My guess is a shovel.
Hope you dig that one.
Motivation Boost: Move for a Reason, Not Just a Mood
You don’t have to feel ready. You just have to remember why you started.
My “why”? I want to keep playing basketball with my buddies who are 20+ years younger than me and be a healthy, active Dad for our two boys.
That’s bigger than “motivation.” That’s a mission.
What’s your reason?
When you move with that kind of purpose, consistency becomes a whole lot easier.
Fitness Focus: A Go-To Workout That Doesn’t Waste Your Time
One of my go-to quick workouts:
- 20 Kettlebell Swings or Dumbbell Swings
- 10 Push-ups (wall push-ups totally count)
Do these as a superset, resting only as needed.
Set a timer for 10, 15, or 20 minutes—whatever you’ve got—and get after it.
Simple, sweaty, and solid.
You’ll hit your lower body with the swings and your upper body with the push-ups (and your core on both!), while improving your cardio.
Sweat Smarter - Tech Hack
Create a “Workout Wins” album on your phone.
Snap a post-workout pic, screenshot a completed tracker, or jot down a win in Notes.
It builds visual proof that you are doing the work (even when your brain says otherwise).
Keep smirkin',
