In my office, I have
a small closet...
Inside there is a little bit of a mess including some VHS tapes that I'll be converting to digital one day, envelopes, supplies, textbooks, etc.
There's also one extremely effective tool that has helped me keep off the 115lbs...
First, let me explain how I use it (because you can have the greatest tool in the world, but if you don't know how to use it, what's the point?)
I mentioned this before, but 3R = Resistance (R1), Reps (R2), Rotation (R3).
It's way more effective for those 40 and older.
With traditional exercise such as HIIT, you're basically doing the same thing over and over, using the same muscle groups, with the same intensity.
Treadmill intervals for example... fast, slow, fast,
slow... not to mention the pounding your joints take from it.
With 3R, you work more muscle groups, while the intensity, rotation of exercises, and the reps are varied, yet giving you HIIT results in just a fraction of the time.
By utilizing more muscle groups, this
cranks up your metabolism for hours, allowing you to eat more and diet less. And you can do this with a pair of dumbbells or nothing at all.
But...
You can do this with a single kettlebell, too.
In fact, a study from the American Council on Exercise showed that you can burn 20 calories a minute using just ONE kettlebell!
During certain seasons of my life, I rely on my kettlebell in my home office closet to keep the weight from creeping up. It came in real handy while I wasn't able to play basketball with my buddies thanks to
a knee injury.
Here's the kicker...
One night for dinner, I had ham/cheese sliders, chips, Chex chocolate mix, and way too many chocolate truffles my wife got from one of her tutoring students.
Yet, the following morning I was a half pound LIGHTER.
You see, a kettlebell changes the dynamics in how your muscles are worked, bringing a new "stimulation".
You can bust a plateau, allow more "wiggle room" in your diet, and improve your stamina, too.
Not to mention have fun doing it :)
Later tater,
