One of the reasons I have MANDATORY check-ins with my coaching clients is so they don't "suffer in silence".
Â
This is when someone struggles and sometimes even give up when things aren't going their way such as...
Â
- Messing up on their diet
- Self-sabotage
- Skipping workouts
- Not getting results even when they are eating healthy
and exercising
Â
Today, I'm going to talk about that last one because it can be really frustrating.
Â
While most coaches think dieting more and/or exercising more is the solution, it's not always the
case.
Â
One of the things I ask them about is their sleep.
Â
Poor quality sleep has repeatedly been linked to a higher body mass index (BMI) and weight gain.
Â
Additionally, many sleep disorders, like sleep apnea, are worsened by weight gain.Â
Â
It’s a vicious cycle...
Â
Poor sleep can cause weight gain, and weight gain can cause your sleep quality to decrease even further.
Â
It's not just the quantity of sleep. It's the QUALITY of sleep.
Â
Studies show that if you're not getting QUALITY sleep, you have a bigger appetite and tend to eat more.
Â
This is
due to its effect on hormones that signal hunger and fullness.
Â
Furthermore, research has found that lack of sleep can increase your cravings for foods that are high in calories, carbohydrates, and fat.
Â
Those who get adequate quality sleep tend to eat fewer calories than those who don’t get
enough sleep.
Â
If you find yourself hungry all the time and/or crave sweets and carbs, it could be your sleeping patterns (quality or quantity).
Â
So what can you do?
Â
One of the best things you could
ever do is manage your stress (both mental and physical), while improving your recovery from that stress.
Â
The KEY time to do this is at night while you sleep.
Â
Here's something that will help you sleep WAY better
Â
I've been doing it a while after reluctantly trying it and the only regret I have is not starting sooner...
Â
To more (and better) sleep, helping you get fit
for life,
Mikey
