After reading an
article on this, I had to share my take on it...
Let’s settle the debate: Is iceberg lettuce really the salad slacker everyone says it is?
About 20 years ago, the world turned on poor, crunchy iceberg and now many "influencers" are doing the same.
Suddenly, it was labeled as nutritionally “useless,” and everyone was chanting “baby spinach or bust!”
Fast forward to today, and kale's the new king.
But does this mean iceberg deserves a spot on the do not eat list?
Not so fast.
In fact, there are some pretty good reasons to give iceberg another look. Here’s why it might even be your secret weapon in the salad game:
1. It’s got the crunch factor. If you’re more
likely to make a salad when iceberg’s in the mix, that’s a win. Let’s be real—kale is great, but for a lot of people - only if it’s loaded with enough dressing to drown it.
2. Low-calorie satisfaction. Iceberg is light, hydrating, and lets you fill up with hardly any calories. That means you get that satisfying crunch without overloading on extras. It's a "high volume, low calorie"
food. This means it takes up more space, making you feel full without adding a bunch of calories. That's a win.
Bottom line: Sometimes the best food choice is the one you’ll actually eat.
So, if iceberg is what you enjoy, go ahead and pile it on. And remember, you don’t have to
pick a side—mix and match the greens you like.
Eat the greens that work for you. Even if it’s the humble iceberg.
Crunch on,
