"It is a chore just to bend down and tie my
shoes", a woman said to me.
She wasn't really looking to lose weight (although she admitted she would like to lose 5-10lbs), but for her, it was wanting to move easier.
I could totally understand. Just 5+ years ago, I had no mobility/flexibility routines designed for my clients because it really didn't impact their weight.
Then I had a reality check...
Of course it does.
As I’m aging (and my clients), I realize the impact and importance of having mobility and flexibility.
I would imagine you’d like to move easier in your day-to-day activities and not feel so “stiff”.
Perhaps you’d like to get down on the floor with your children or grandchildren and not worry about how long it will take to get up.
And... yes, lack of mobility/flexibility makes exercise "unfun".
If you're miserable, you won't be motivated to move. If you don't move, you're eating. If you're eating, you're gaining weight (or at least not losing it).
Not to mention having better mobility and flexibility enhances the results from exercise (going deeper, etc. works more muscle = burning more fat).
So with my coaching students who wanted to move easier but without being bored or having to do suffer through complex Yoga routines, I came up with Mobility and Flexibility "Hybrids" like this one...
- Arm Crosses (20)
- Swinging Adductor Stretch (10e)
Do this 3X, resting for around 1 minute between supersets
- Hip Circles (10e)
- Hands on Lower Back Chest Stretch (20 secs)
Do this 3X, resting for around 1 minute between supersets
- Leopard or Baby Crawl (20 secs)
- Lying Glute Stretch (20
secs/side)
Do this 3X, resting for around 1 minute between supersets
It's these short, but powerful "hybrid" supersets that allow you to move easier and even recover better.
You can do something like this after a workout, on your day off, or even before your routine... even as a substitute workout if you're feeling "stiff".
It will translate to doing "life" easier like golfing, pickleball, playing with your kids and grandkids, and even tying your shoes.
You can get more here, along with video demonstrations, 100+ finishers, and other goodies (yep, it's all
true).
Later tater,
