Gosh I am so tired of hearing this...
Â
"Abs are made in the kitchen."
Â
No, they aren't.Â
Â
When I saw this phrase for the billionth time, I knew
it was time to share this "distract" method to help you reach your goals.Â
Â
I've used this with my coaching clients and yes, I've used it myself.
Â
If you distract yourself to stay out of the kitchen, you won't eat. Pretty simple, but let's see how to apply this...
Â
Let's say you tend to snack after dinner thanks to work stress. You just stand there in the kitchen wondering why you work with a bunch of idiots.Â
Â
Like John, the guy that asks multiple unnecessary questions at team meetings and so you reach for the chips...
Â
Or Martha, who CCs you on every email that has nothing to do with you and wants to "keep you in the loop" for some reason... so you reach for the kids' cereal...
Â
I think you get the idea. So, let's be realistic. Do you see yourself reaching for the celery sticks in times of stress?Â
Â
I wouldn't think so.
Â
Think of at least two "escape windows" that are away from the kitchen.
Â
A few ideas:
Â
- Run an errand
- Take a shower
- Go for a 10-15 minute bike ride or walk
- Take the dog for a walk
- Read (in a room away from the kitchen)
Â
Now you're distracting yourself. And over time, these distractions lead to achieving your goals.Â
Â
So go ahead, get distracted. :)
Â
Have a great upcoming weekend,
Mikey
Â
PS - You could also grab a kettlebell and burn the equivalent of 6
chocolate chip cookies in the span of just 10 minutes. Here's how to do it.
